Ok this is sad to me that my 3 other children took notice of their brother going into special needs class room. To them using the word special needs meant that he was more important to them. I was greeted this morning with So Nicolas gets to ride a special bus, go to a special class because he is special. Well I had not had my coffee yet so I was left with a blank when answering their questions. When they get back I will explain to them that special needs does not make him anymore special then the rest of them. Yes he has special needs that can not be filled in a regular classroom I just guess i need to fraze it differently.
Sorry am way to tired to add to my entry just wanted to share my experience for today :)

End of Summer
Well it is the end of summer I have to admit I'm a little sad and a little happy. I'm sad that all my children will be at school all day this year. School starts Monday for my boys. I am also happy because all will be in school this year. Hopefully I can find a job like subbing so that i can (a) fill my days and (b) make a little money.
I will blog next week to talk about how Nicolas is handling his first week of school. He did headstart last year and loved it but it was only half day. This year is kindergarten and is all day, and in the special needs class. I am confident that he will handle it better then me lol.

Passion Of Autism
OK my son loves getting a screw driver and unscrewing anything he sees with a screw in it. We have manged to hide every screw driver we catch him with. But he is creative he can make a screw driver out of just about anything silverware, pieces of toys, sticks, etc. He had the same obsession with light bulbs (that was scary) We ended up removing almost every light bulb he was able to reach. Well he tries to remove every cover from the light switches and plug in covers. He also likes to remove the pins from the hinges on the doors around the house.
No matter what we try to do to get him to stop playing with the screws he almost never wants to. He is very good at reading people. He will hide his tools (homemade) I can always tell when he is hiding something he knows he can not have. He will sit down in front of you and make a point of looking innocent its really cute. Picture a little kid on TV whistling when they are trying to hide something from their parents. He looks just like that but without the whistle.
One night while finding and taking away his tools me husband was trying to describe his obsessive behavior. He remarked that Nicolas had a Passion for trying to unscrew everything. My husband speaks English very well (well he has to i don't speak Spanish lol) and I just loved the word he chose to use to describe his obsession. Passion sounds so much better then obsession .
Anyways it has been easy to fix the problem with Nicolas' passion for pulling the pins out of the doors we are replacing the hinges with the kind you can not pull out. I never realized how many doors we have in our home. :( :) Fixing the screw problem is the most challenging my husband came up with the idea to sand/grind down the top of the screw to it is impossible for him to use his tools to remove the screws.
Its amazing how well he looks at the details of things. He has a twin brother who does not have Autism and when I use regular childproofing methods Nico figures out how to operate it while Izaias just doesn't even take the time to even look at how it work. I wonder sometime if we are the only ones who have to get so creative on childproofing. I know we have to work with him also he is a smart child and before we know it he will be tall enough to reach the lock on top of the front door, and he will outgrow being able to sit in the grocery cart. Hopefully we can keep coming up with creative solutions to keep my Passionate boy safe.

spring is ending
To start I had a blast with Kevin at the zoo yesterday. We got a little turned around on our way there and a lot turned around on our way back. (if i had drove it would not have been such a turn around on the way back). Cinci zoo is kinda smaller then Indy zoo but we got to see a lot more animals.
Last night Izaias class had an end of the year program. Mrs. Kathys class was awesome the kids did a great job. One of the cutest things I have ever saw. Nicolas' class did bowling and Nicolas is a natural at it. He loved it and it was so cute. We will defiantly do bowling over the summer.
Plans for Summer
- Library Reading Program Me and All 4 kiddies
- Bowling
- lots of time at the park
- I need a summer job to make some extra cash for breakfast and lunches be it working somewhere or mowing grass. Applications will be filled out this weekend.
- Spend tons of time with the boys
- Nicolas in another speech program
- Kevin also in a speech program
- Paint interior of home (extra job would help)
- For me to keep moving and keep dropping pounds (my goal is to loose weight each week whether it be 1lb or 5lbs just to keep loosing. It didn't take me a week to gain all my extra luggage it will not take me a day to loose it all)
- Potty Train Nicolas (couple of ideas here. From running around naked at my dads outside to taking him to the potty every time we go. Looking for advice here)

In Honor of Stupid People
In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through
stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.
On a Sears hairdryer -- Do not use while sleeping.
(Damn, and that's the only time I have to work on my hair).
On a bag of Fritos -- You could be a winner! No purchase necessary.
Details inside.
(the shoplifter special?)
On a bar of Dial soap -- "Directions: Use like regular soap."
(and that would be how???....)
On some Swanson frozen dinners -- "Serving suggestion: Defrost."
(but, it's "just" a suggestion).
On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom) -- "Do not turn upside
down."
(well...duh, a bit late, huh!)
On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding -- "Product will be hot after heating."
(...and you thought????...)
On packaging for a Rowenta iron -- "Do not iron clothes on body."
(but wouldn't this save me more time)?
On Boot's Children Cough Medicine -- "Do not drive a car or operate
machinery after taking this medication."
(We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we
could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)
On Nytol Sleep Aid -- "Warning: May cause drowsiness."
(and...I'm taking this because???....)
On most brands of Christmas lights -- "For indoor or outdoor use only."
(as opposed to...what)?
On a Japanese food processor -- "Not to be used for the other use."
(now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)
On Sainsbury's peanuts -- "Warning: contains nuts."
(talk about a news flash)
On an American Airlines packet of nuts -- "Instructions: Open packet,
eat nuts."
(Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)
On a child's Superman costume -- "Wearing of this garment does not
enable you to fly."
(I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)
On a Swedish chainsaw -- "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands
or genitals."
(Oh my God...was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

BITCHOLOGY???
BITCHOLOGY
When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a bitch.
When I stand up for those I love, they call me a bitch.
When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they
call me a bitch.
Being a bitch means I won't compromise what's in my heart. It
means I live my life MY way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me.
When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a
bitch.
The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being
everyone's maid, or when I act a little selfish.
It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly
am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I "should" be.
I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. I want what I want and there is
nothing wrong with that!
So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every
ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won't succeed.
And if that makes me a bitch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to
bear it.
B - Babe
I - In
T - Total
C - Control of
H - Herself
B = Beautiful

H = Hell of a Woman

My take on Myths About Autism
- Individuals with autism never make eye contact; they do not look at you.
- Autism is a mental illness.
- Progress means a person doesn't have autism. (who thinks this)
- Individuals with autism don't speak. (met other children living with autism who do speak)
- Autism can be outgrown. (don't we wish)
- Individuals with autism can't learn. (My son learns something new it seems like everyday)
- Underneath all the difficult behaviors is a normal person.
- Individuals with autism cannot show affection and do not respond to physical affection. (My son show more affection and responds to physical affection)
- Individuals with autism do not want friends.
- Individuals with autism do not relate to peers/adults. (he copys his peers/adults)
- Individuals with autism are very manipulative. (who really thinks this)
- Individuals with autism could talk if they wanted to.
- Individuals with autism can't smile. (my son smiles and laughs often)
- Individuals with autism don't notice others and don't pick up cues from adults. (even though he doesn't always look you in the eye he notices others and he does pick up cues from adults)
- When a person with autism does not respond to a question/direction to which he has shown a previous correct response, he is being stubborn/non-compliant/obnoxious. (again who really thinks this)

Well we had a great weekend. We were broke but that did not get us down :) we went hunting for mushroom yahooo we did find some only about four but had fun treaking through the woods with the boys. Nicolas loves the outdoors it was like he was at home playing in the creek and finding rocks and scaring his brothers. My Son's
Ramiro is 9yrs old he will be 10 May 4. He is my oldest. He is very creative. Loves art, science,writing, and reading. Of all my children he is most like me. On ISTEP this fall he scored in the top 5-10% of the state. {i'm a mommy have to brag}
Kevin is 8yrs old. He loves video games, and fighting with his younger brother Izaias. School has not been easy for him and I am trying to find the way to get him into a private school because the classes are smaller in order to give him more attention. He does a very good job at making friends. Must get this from my dad. Also enjoys biking and skateboarding.
Izaias is 5ys old going on 30 lol. He also enjoys fighting with Kevin but still considers him his best buddy. Zaias asks the most questions about everything sometime though provoking. He is the only child that looks like me or does when i was his age.
Nicolas is also 5 yrs old. He is the sweetest most loving child I have. His best buddy is our cat Austin. He enjoys school, rocks, cds, lights, and hiding things.

I love someonw with Autism (my blog post from January 30, 2009)
My youngest son is 5 years old and yesterday he was officially diagnosed with Autism. I am not in shock because i knew it already. I am just happy that now he can get the help he needs. Nicolas has already done such a great job in school and just started this year so I believe that my son can do anything. Yes i have done the stages of grief not by the book but if i think back i have done them over the past three years.
Why did it take so long for an official diagnosis?
That one is simple or maybe not but here is our story...... Nicolas is a
twin and his twin is way I mean way more active. At first i thought that
he was just the outspoken one. It was around two and a half that i first
realized that there was problem. When I or anyone else would try to talk
to Nicolas it was like he was ignoring us. i then went to my friend and
sometimes enemy the internet and put the pieces together myself. That was
the beginning. At first I was in denial. I mean i have three other
boys that have had no other problems besides being a little over active.
Then nicolas started to go into his own little world. He stopped playing
with his brothers and seemed happy and content to just play on the sidelines by
himself. At three I was convinced and ready to seek help. Lets just
say that was a long and winding road that took till he was four and started head
start. And there was a year wait to get him into to the clinic at Riley to
get an evaluation. (if you live in indiana and you have medicaid make sure
that you have MDWise because if not it takes awhile to change and a bunch of
letters and phone calls to explain to you that you need to do this.)Since starting school he has been doing so much better. I waited to start him in
head start till he was four because he has such a hard time leaving home he
throws fits and gets very scared. Not the case since starting school he
runs to the bus, and when i visit his class he runs away from me. This did
not upset me but i did cry happy tears. My little boy was happy and I was
not the only one he had to relie on for this. I have to give credit
to his teachers they are so great very helpful to him and me.
